Rules are everywhere. They shape the way we learn, work, and create. At first, they might seem like limits—things that box us in, keeping us from thinking outside the lines. But the truth is, rules are like a foundation. They give us structure, a starting point.

Think about music. Every great musician first learns the scales, the notes, and the rhythm. Writers study grammar and storytelling. Painters learn techniques, brushstrokes, and colors. It’s only after mastering these basics that they can truly innovate—bend the rules, twist them, even break them to create something unique.

Picasso, whose words inspired this idea, didn’t start by painting the wild and abstract faces we know today. He learned classical techniques first. Then, with that knowledge, he shattered expectations and redefined art itself.

This idea isn’t just for artists—it applies to life, too. We all follow paths set by others before us. But once we understand the ‘rules’ of a craft, a job, or even life itself, we earn the right to challenge them. To push boundaries. To create something fresh, bold, and meaningful.

So whatever you do, learn the basics first. Study them, practice them, respect them. Then, when you’re ready—go beyond them. That’s where the real magic happens.
