There’s a quiet danger hidden in the phrase “one day.”
It sounds soft. Harmless. Even hopeful.
But most of the time, it’s just a way to delay life.
I know this because I used to say it too.
“One day I’ll change.”
“One day I’ll chase that dream.”
“One day I’ll become the person I want to be.”
But that “one day” kept moving further away.
Until one moment—twenty years ago—I realized something:
Nothing would happen unless I made it happen.
If I wanted a different life, a new chapter, a real beginning…
Then “Day One” had to be today.
It wasn’t a dramatic moment.
No music, no spotlight.
Just a quiet decision inside me:
It’s all in my hands. No one’s coming to write my story for me.
So I picked up the pen.
Since that day, I’ve learned something important:
“One day” is just a dream that never wakes up.
But “Day One” is a choice you make—with trembling hands, with a scared heart, maybe—but you make it.
And you know what?
Every big change in my life… started quietly. With a day one.
A single step.
A tiny “yes.”
A decision not to wait anymore.
So if you’re holding on to a “one day”…
Maybe this is your sign to let it go.
Call today what it really is:
Your Day One.

“One Day” hit home… thanks for writing It
Hey Georgi,
I just wanted to say your this post, One Day, stopped me in my tracks. That whole idea of “one day” being a quiet danger… it hit me.
I’ve written about similar things, but your delivery was so clean and grounded it almost snuck up on me. In a good way.
I don’t usually reach out like this, but your writing really resonates. I also write reflections and nonfiction (as M.S. Payton), and some fiction under S. Payton. Our tones are different… yours is more calm, mine veers a little more over-the-top at times… but I think there’s overlap in what we’re trying to offer readers.
If you’re ever open to connecting or even tossing around the idea of a guest post exchange or something collaborative, I’d love that.
No pressure at all… just appreciating your work and glad I stumbled across your blog.
Keep writing, M.S. Payton

Thank you so much, M.S.—your words truly mean a lot to me. “One Day” was one of those pieces that came from a very quiet, honest place, and it touches me deeply to know it resonated with you in that way.
I really appreciate how thoughtfully you’ve engaged with the post, and your description—“a quiet danger”—is exactly the feeling I was trying to name.
It’s always a rare and special thing to find a fellow writer walking a parallel path, even if our tones are different. I’d be happy to stay in touch and explore the possibility of a collaboration when the timing feels right. Thank you again for the kind encouragement—I’m truly grateful our paths crossed.
