May 6th.

In Bulgaria, this day carries a powerful name—St. Georgi’s Day, known as Gergiovden.

This is my name’s day.

But today, I don’t want to speak about tradition alone.
I want to speak about something deeper.

Because this day is not just about a saint,
and it’s not just about a name.

It’s about courage.

Not the loud kind.
Not the kind people celebrate in stories.

The quiet kind.

The kind that wakes up every morning and chooses to continue.
The kind that carries responsibility without asking for recognition.
The kind that protects, provides, and stands firm—even when no one is watching.

That is what this day means to me now.

Saint Georgi is often shown as a warrior, standing before a dragon.
But life doesn’t always give us dragons we can see.

Sometimes, the battles are inside us.
Sometimes, they are doubts, fears, pressure, or simply the weight of being the one others rely on.

And still… we stand.

Still… we move forward.

That is a strength.

So today, I don’t celebrate a name.

I recognize a responsibility.

To be steady when things feel uncertain.
To be present when it would be easier to withdraw.
To choose patience over reaction.
To choose action over hesitation.

To keep going—no matter what.

Because courage is not about being fearless.
It’s about not stopping.

And I know I’m not the only one living this way.

There are so many people around us who carry more than they show.
People who hold families together.
People who push through silent struggles.
People who don’t give up—even when they’re tired.

This day belongs to them too.

So if you’re walking through something right now…
if you’re holding more than you expected…
if you’re doing your best without knowing what comes next—

this is your day too.

Not because of a name.

But because of who you are.

To everyone who celebrates today—Happy Name Day.

And to everyone who continues, despite everything—
I see you.

Keep going.

That is more than enough.

Happy Gergiovden!

  1. This was beautifully written Georgi. I especially appreciated the distinction between loud courage and quiet courage, because so much of life is actually lived in the quiet kind—the getting up again, the carrying on when nobody sees the weight, and the continuing to show up with patience, responsibility, and steadiness even when the heart feels tired. Your thought about the “dragons we cannot see” really stayed with me. So many battles are inward ones—fear, discouragement, grief, pressure, uncertainty—and yet some of the strongest people are the ones who quietly keep moving forward anyway. That kind of endurance says far more about character than noise ever could. I also found it meaningful that you framed courage not as fearlessness, but as refusing to stop. That feels deeply true to life. Sometimes faithfulness looks less like conquering a mountain and more like taking the next step while trusting God for strength enough for today. And honestly, I think there is something deeply honoring in recognizing the unseen burdens people carry. Many are fighting silent battles while still pouring into others around them. A little kindness, understanding, or encouragement can become a resting place for a weary soul. Happy Gergiovden to you. May the Lord continue to strengthen your heart and steady your steps as you keep pressing forward.

    1. Thank you deeply for this beautiful and thoughtful reflection.
You understood the heart of this piece so completely. The quiet courage you described — the steady endurance, the unseen battles, the simple act of continuing despite fear or exhaustion — is exactly the kind of strength I wanted to honor with these words.
Your words truly stayed with me. Thank you for your kindness, your wisdom, and your heartfelt blessing, my friend.

  2. Doubts fear pressure and still we stand tall…sometimes those emotions are so well hidden others don’t recognise it is a part of most people’s lives at one time or another in one way or another. Your name day is apt for you. Those of us who follow you see your kind actions in supportive gentle comforting words willingly standing beside others…which is shown in the generous spirit and nature of how you respond how you show up. That vote of confidence”I see you” means worlds for those quietly going about their daily lives being the best they can be, silent soldiers safeguarding and supporting others without fanfare recognition and often thanks. So thank you Georgi for quietly humbly living up to your name sake day…we all benefit as a result🥺tears of joy and appreciation btw 😉

    1. Thank you for seeing not just the message, but the heart behind it. I think so many people carry hidden battles quietly, and sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do for one another is simply to say, “I see you.”
What you shared about silent soldiers safeguarding others without recognition is incredibly powerful and true. And honestly, your kindness and the way you notice and encourage people is part of that same quiet strength too.

    1. So true. Sometimes courage is simply continuing through the ordinary weight of everyday life. We all carry struggles others may never see, and the effort to keep going through them deserves more recognition than we often give it.

  3. “What is in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”

What a lovely tirbute to your name day. And I am so very glad that you were born to share this human journey with us. I treasure your capacity to articulate awareness in the art of aligning our human sleves with the ineffable Light we search for, find, seem to lose, and find again flowering in the corner we more often than not overlook in the outer demands of our lives. I thank you for the gifts that shine through you and this vehicle of communication. Those of us who have found you are drawn to your particular way of framing our humanity for us, pointing us towards self honesty, and self love, the hardest act for most of us. To know that we are Loved always calls for that quiet courage to become, not overcome, the benign dragon- not a s a fiery foe but as a being that holds ancient wisdom flying free. Many happy returns of a lovely day to you.

    1. I honestly don’t know how to fully thank you for such a beautiful and deeply thoughtful reflection.
Your words feel like something far beyond a comment — they feel like a gift of understanding, kindness, and human connection. The way you spoke about courage, becoming, self-love, and the search for Light touched me deeply. And your image of the dragon not as a foe, but as a being holding ancient wisdom and freedom… that stayed with me in a profound way.
Thank you for seeing so much inside my writing and for expressing it with such grace and depth. I truly believe one of the greatest gifts in life is to feel understood beyond surface words, and today you gave me that feeling.
I’m grateful our paths crossed in this vast world of voices and stories. Thank you for walking this human journey alongside me ❤️

    1. “I see you” may be simple words, but I think many people quietly need to hear them more than we realize. And honestly, your comments carry that same gift — they notice people deeply, encourage gently, and remind others they are not alone.

      1. I’m so tech savvy, and I couldn’t remember what I’d said in the first message, and then sent a second because I figured it hadn’t arrived; so I felt foolish since after realizing it had arrived it was pretty similar in thought to the first one. It wasn’t a case of being cliche about the post and your value, but rather, a definite heartfelt response (twice over) lolol

  5. In my home country, Brazil, it is “São Jorge”: the same guy killing a dragon, ever-present in Catholic mythology.

Happy São Jorge’s Day to all the anonymous saints around the world. We do need some strength because sometimes we feel like giving up.

    1. I love that. It’s beautiful how the spirit of St. George’s Day and São Jorge connects people across different countries and cultures through the same message of courage and perseverance.
And yes… sometimes life truly does make us feel tired enough to give up. That’s why I think the “anonymous saints” you mentioned — the ordinary people quietly continuing despite everything — deserve more recognition than they ever receive. Thank you for this beautiful reflection, my friend.

    1. Rosie, this truly means so much to me ❤️ Thank you for highlighting those words and for always reading with such depth and understanding. I think the older I become, the more I realize courage is less about dramatic moments and more about the quiet responsibility of how we choose to live each day. Your support and kindness have been such a meaningful part of my journey, and I’m deeply grateful for you.
