One year ago, my friend Rosie started something called R Meadow Highlights.
Today, she published a post celebrating its first anniversary, and while reading it, I discovered something beautiful all over again:
I was Highlight #1.
At the time, I didn’t know I was standing at the beginning of something. I was simply a writer who had written some words, and Rosie was a reader who saw something in them worth sharing.
But that first highlight became another. And another.
Over the past year, Rosie has introduced her readers to writers she discovered simply by doing what writers should never stop doing—reading other writers.
There is no submission form. No one applies. Rosie reads, notices, and when something stays with her, she shines a little light on it so someone else might notice it too.
I have been incredibly fortunate to stand in that light more than once.
Rosie has shared many of my posts with her readers. She highlighted my writing again months after that first post. And when she later created In Others’ Words on Substack, a place for guest writers, she gave me the honor of being her guest there.
But today isn’t really about counting how many times Rosie has shared my words.
It is about celebrating someone who understands something important:
Writers need readers, but sometimes writers also need someone who says, “Come here. You should read this.”
For one year, Rosie has been that person for many of us.
So today, my dear friend, I want to turn the spotlight around.
Congratulations on one year of R Meadow Highlights, Rosie.
You have spent a year helping people discover other people’s words.
Today, I hope a few more people discover yours.
And to everyone reading this: please take a little time to visit Rosie at R Meadow. Explore her writing, wander through her Highlights, and perhaps discover another writer along the way.
After all, that is exactly how this beautiful journey began—with one reader discovering another writer.
