Last September, my dear friend Tabatha Richardson said something that stayed with me:

β€œSeptember is like an old friend coming to visit us.”

That one sentence inspired me to write β€œAn Old Friend Named September.”

A year has passed, and I have written many stories and reflections since then, but this remains one of my favorite autumn pieces I have ever written.

So today, I’m not writing something new.

I’m simply opening the door to an old friend again. 🍁

Maybe you remember this one. Maybe you’re meeting it for the first time.

Either way… come in, September. The kettle’s on.

    1. Thank you so much for telling me this. Knowing that my words brought even a little peace into the busyness of your medical student life means more than you know. I hope you find a few quiet September moments just for yourself too.

    1. Oh, I love that the changing leaves in your garden made you think of my September writing. That feels like such a beautiful compliment. Thank you for remembering *An Old Friend Named September* and for your lovely words about it.

    1. What a beautiful story to carry with September. No wonder it feels like an old friend to youβ€”it brought a new beginning that changed the direction of your life and eventually became a marriage. I especially love how you described it as bringing new colors after a darker time. Thank you for sharing such a meaningful memory.
