One year ago, my friend Rosie started something called R Meadow Highlights.
Today, she published a post celebrating its first anniversary, and while reading it, I discovered something beautiful all over again:
I was Highlight #1.
At the time, I didn’t know I was standing at the beginning of something. I was simply a writer who had written some words, and Rosie was a reader who saw something in them worth sharing.
But that first highlight became another. And another.
Over the past year, Rosie has introduced her readers to writers she discovered simply by doing what writers should never stop doing—reading other writers.
There is no submission form. No one applies. Rosie reads, notices, and when something stays with her, she shines a little light on it so someone else might notice it too.
I have been incredibly fortunate to stand in that light more than once.
Rosie has shared many of my posts with her readers. She highlighted my writing again months after that first post. And when she later created In Others’ Words on Substack, a place for guest writers, she gave me the honor of being her guest there.
But today isn’t really about counting how many times Rosie has shared my words.
It is about celebrating someone who understands something important:
Writers need readers, but sometimes writers also need someone who says, “Come here. You should read this.”
For one year, Rosie has been that person for many of us.
So today, my dear friend, I want to turn the spotlight around.
Congratulations on one year of R Meadow Highlights, Rosie.
You have spent a year helping people discover other people’s words.
Today, I hope a few more people discover yours.
And to everyone reading this: please take a little time to visit Rosie at R Meadow. Explore her writing, wander through her Highlights, and perhaps discover another writer along the way.
After all, that is exactly how this beautiful journey began—with one reader discovering another writer.

Absolutely! That is one of the wonderful things about this writing community. One blog leads to another, one voice introduces us to another, and suddenly we find a new little corner filled with words we might never have discovered otherwise.

I love that! When I write I hope someone will come across it and feel a connection. That is how I feel when I read your blog. You have a humble way of saying profound things! Thank you for all you share!

Thank you so much! I think that connection is one of the most beautiful things about writing. We put our thoughts into words without knowing exactly who will find them or what they might mean to someone when they do. Knowing that you find that kind of connection here means more to me than you probably realize. And your words about the way I write truly touched me. Thank you for reading, connecting, and being here.

How sweet of Rosie to highlight your work! I wasn’t really aware that she’d done that. Since I’ve read her work, as well as yours, it makes total sense to me that she would highlight your work. Both of you are wonderfully creative and talented artists with words. I’m sure glad to be reading both works. Congrats to you both!

Thank you so much, Shirley! Rosie has been incredibly supportive of my writing, not just once, but many times over the past year, and that has made her friendship very special to me. I love that you read both of us and can appreciate the different ways we share our words. And “artists with words” is such a beautiful compliment. Thank you for being here, reading, and encouraging us both. It truly means a lot. ❤️

I very much enjoyed this piece Georgi. I think of it as the snowball effect—one person supporting another until an idea grows far beyond where it began. Word of mouth has always been one of the greatest forms of advertising. Then radio transformed communication, allowing one person or group to be heard across great distances.
And yes, Georgi, there is something beautiful about sharing the written words of others. I have done so often—with the permission of the author or publisher—because meaningful writing deserves to reach a wider audience. I always enjoy your pieces and am grateful when I have the opportunity to share them.

I love the way you describe it as the snowball effect. That is exactly what can happen when one person decides to share someone else’s words. Something that begins as one small gesture can travel much farther than we ever expect.
And I think there is something especially generous about sharing another writer’s work simply because we believe it deserves more readers. Rosie has done that for me many times, and it sounds like you have done the same for others. Thank you for that—and thank you for always taking the time to read and support my words too. It truly means a lot to me.

What a precious friend! There is something wonderfully generous about a person who can recognize another person’s light without feeling that it somehow dims their own. Rosie wasn’t simply sharing writing; she was practicing the quiet art of noticing—and then refusing to keep what she noticed to herself. I think some of the most meaningful encouragement we ever receive comes from someone who has nothing to gain by giving it. One person says, “You should read this,” and suddenly words travel farther than their writer ever imagined. What a beautiful reminder that sometimes the person holding the spotlight becomes part of the story too.

You expressed this so beautifully. “The quiet art of noticing” especially stayed with me, because I think that is exactly what Rosie does. She notices something meaningful in another person’s words and, instead of simply enjoying it herself, she opens the door and invites others in.
And I completely agree—someone else’s light never has to diminish our own. If anything, when we choose to shine a light on another person, the whole space becomes a little brighter.
Rosie has done that for me many times, and for so many other writers too. So yes, after a year of holding the spotlight, I thought it was time for her to become part of the story. Thank you for understanding the heart of this post so perfectly.

Turning the spotlight back onto Rosie for the one-year anniversary of R Meadow Highlights is such a beautiful gesture! Finding readers who actively champion other writers simply for the pure love of the craft is so special. What a wonderful tribute to a great friend!

Thank you so much! That is exactly what I wanted this little tribute to be—my chance to turn the spotlight back toward someone who has spent so much time shining it on others. Rosie has supported my writing in so many ways, but what makes it even more special is that she does the same for many writers simply because she believes their words deserve to be discovered. That kind of support is a beautiful thing in any writing community, and I’m very grateful to call her my friend.

What an incredibly kind thing to say. Thank you. I started this post wanting to shine a little light back on Rosie because she has done that for me and so many other writers, and somehow your comment has turned some of that light back toward me again.
The part that means the most is knowing that my stories can leave someone with a thought, a feeling, or a place where they feel comfortable connecting and sharing. That is so much of what I hope for when I write.
And yes, Rosie has a wonderful way of seeing something in another writer’s words and saying, “Others should read this too.” I’m very fortunate that she has done that for me.
Thank you for these beautiful words. I will carry them with me.

Thanks Georgi for making sure I saw this! I had commented on the ping back that shows up on my original post, but it didn’t carry over to your original post. “Thank you Georgi for letting me share your work!
You described it so well my friend and I appreciate the call out!”
I’ve seen this before when someone commented on one of mine and I didn’t see their comment but didn’t know how it was happening. Leave it to you to be showing kindness and teaching me something at the same time – as usual!
Such kind words from you and everyone commenting! Much appreciated! ~ Rosie

My dear Rosie, you have given me so many reasons to be grateful over the past year, and this little tribute was the least I could do! I’m so glad we solved the mystery of the missing comment, too! Thank you for sharing my work, for your friendship, and for everything you do to bring writers and readers together. Seeing all these lovely comments about you makes me especially happy because every word is well deserved. Here’s to many more years of R Meadow Highlights, my dear friend!
